State Co-operative Union (SCU), is a statutory body established by the State Government under the provision of Kerala Co-operative Societies Act of 1969. SCU, Apart from playing its key role as a regulatory authority of Co-operative Movement in the State, it is an educational agency conducting Junior Diploma and Higher Diploma Courses in Co-operation right from its inception. The Union prescribes the course content and curriculum and conducts examinations.  Co-operative training is disseminated through 12 Training Colleges, and 10 Co-operative Training Centres. Co-operative education is implemented through Co-operative education Instructors all over the State. The Co-operative Union plays an important role for strengthening and infusing professionalism in the Co-operative movement in Kerala.

Sri.KOLIAKODE N KRISHNAN NAIR

 The chairman of State cooperative Union, Kerala, Sri. Koliakode N. Krishnan Nair is a member of Kerala Legislative Assembly,representing Vamanapuram constituency.

He  entered politics through Student – Youth Movements; was Secretary of Kerala Students Federation; District Secretary and State Joint Secretary of Karshaka Sangham, Thiruvananthapuram; president of District Plantation Workers Union, State Co-operative Agriculture Development Bank and State Co-operative Bank; and member of , All India Kisan Committee, Editorial Board of Karshaka Keralam, Senate and Syndicate of University of Kerala. He was previously elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1980, 1982, 1987 and 1991.
